What elimination adds

Unlike a draw that resolves in one step, survival removes balls one at a time until only a few remain. The tension when two or three are left is the whole point of the format.

Balls launch from the centre in random directions, bounce off the walls, and are eliminated when they touch the danger circle. Initial direction and speed come from unbiased randomness, so no name is structurally likely to last longer.

Picking one winner or several

Use the last ball standing and it picks a single winner. Use the elimination order instead and it picks who gets the forfeit. The same simulation reads two different ways.

For several winners, take the last few in elimination order. If you need a complete ranking, though, the pinball or pocketball formats present positions more naturally.

Speed and full screen

Slow, normal, and fast are all available. A large group takes a while to resolve, so fast is convenient there, while slow suits a small group where the atmosphere is the point.

Full screen mode scales the stage to fill the display. At normal size the balls and labels are small, so full screen is much better when a group is watching together.

The same speed on every device

Tying physics steps to drawn frames makes the simulation run faster on high-refresh displays. This tool advances the physics in fixed increments based on real elapsed time instead.

So a phone and a desktop, and a 120Hz and a 60Hz display, all progress at the same rate. Several people watching on their own devices stay in sync.

The elimination order differs every run

Running the same list repeatedly produces a different result each time. Initial directions and speeds are redrawn every run, and the collisions that follow amplify those small differences enormously.

That makes the outcome genuinely unpredictable. It also makes rerunning easy, so agree in advance that the first result stands and run it where everyone can see.
